Gol! McDonald's World Cup app changes boxes of French fries in field of dreams

The new boxes work with a new app for the football fun time. McDonald's


Eating French fries and play football (that's soccer, my European friends) are very difficult to do at the same time. But with McDonald's new fry boxes to play the World Cup app game Gol.


To play the full game, you grab the app at gol.mcd.com or search for it in Google to play or the App Store, and buy a box of limited FIFA World Cup McDonald Fries of 26 May. The familiar red boxes are replaced with new artwork by designers from around the world to celebrate the upcoming tournament in Brazil.


"This is the first time in the history of brand we design from one of our customers most favorite menu items on a global scale, and what better reason than to share in the excitement of one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world," said Steve Easterbrook, Senior Executive Vice President and Global Chief Officer of the brand of McDonald's said in a news release.


"This is about bringing fun, innovative programming for our customers and our shared love of futbol. We are excited to be able to do that through an engaging, interactive mobile experience. "


Once the app is launched, just hold your phone over the box fries to start playing. Using augmented reality, you can bounce your trick shot skills the virtual ball of real objects, testing points to win badges and unlock earn bonuses. Just like in real tournament, national pride is on the line--you can display in your country by earning points that are collected in the game of the world trick-shot leaderboard.


The McDonald's Gol! game connected experiences was created by Qualcomm arm and digital marketing agency Trigger. Using the platform of Qualcomm Vuforia mobile vision, play Smart site the gaming app feature makes spaces (in this case, the football field) from everyday objects (the box).


If you can't the World Cup French fries in your area, a trial version trick-shot of the Gol! app is still available for download by May 26. The tournament itself will start on June 12.


To promote the app, and as a sponsor of the World Cup in Brazil, the McDonald launched a new commercial this week that offers children and adults alike showing off their best trick shots using a ball, imagination, and probably a lot of practice.


Maybe this fun promotion will take away some of the terror children his sense of disturbing new McDonald's Happy Meal mascot.
